Flying Family - Homer is on the migration route for all the swans, craines, ducks, geese and other migrant birds in spring and fall. In the spring the flocks glide in and eat on the beach when they arrive. In the fall theducks and craines practice teaching their young how to fly in groups of about 100-150 birds. A flock that is teaching is so noisy they wake us up at night as they practice their manuvers over our house. We know when they are about to leave because they fly almost completely silent when taking off and landing.
